CitiHotel, Hilongos Leyte

CitiHotel, Hilongos Leyte

Whoever thought of it as a good idea the build a hotel on top of a gas station must have been drunk or something. Maybe it works for the owner, but for his guests absolutely not. The whole night motorbikes without muffler pass by, the gas station is a hangout for youngster from the town and it is noisy as hell. Combine that with the endless base and drunk karaoke singing from the rooftop (karaoke)bar right above what they call…

GoHotels Tacloban and GoHotels in general

GoHotels Tacloban and GoHotels in general

After my forced excessive stay in Tacloban due to a storm I must say I’m done with GoHotels. In my earlier review on GoHotels in Bacolod with the bunch of free roaches in the room back than for the very affordable room price of 888 pesos. Nowadays they charge an average of over 1400 to 1900 pesos depending which day of the week. The rooms are so small that 1 person with luggage hardly fits in. I carry 1 dry…

Red Koi Residences, Sorsogon City

Red Koi Residences, Sorsogon City

Red Koi Residences is by far out one of the nicest and cleanest places I have stayed in the Philippines. The introvert build hotel offers a quiet hideaway in the busy city of Sorsogon. Walking distance from the city center, this newly build boutique hotel offers the luxury a travellers seeks. Rooms start just a little under 1700 pesos and for that you get a lot of fluffy towels, nice hot shower and good mattress and pillows. Plenty of amenities…

Garden of Tabinay, Puerto Galera

Garden of Tabinay, Puerto Galera

Garden of Tabinay is the place we come across while fleeing from the endless noise of White Beach. Upon arrival it all seemed calm and peaceful and very quiet. So we decided to move. Were we mistaken. The Garden of Tabinay is an example of how a good development in the Philippines can be ruined by a bad neighbourhood. Once The Garden of Tabinay must have been a haven, an oasis. The garden cottages are a gem. Homely comfortable, everything…

Canyon Woods Resort, Lake Taal

Canyon Woods Resort, Lake Taal

We expected an upscale resort. The pictures on Agoda showed luxury to the max. What we found was a good hotel. Nothing more, nothing less. The rooms are spacious and offer a side way view on Lake Taal, the beds are comfortable and the bathroom is very good. The shower was not as hot as I hoped for, for during our stay it was very cold. The hot water runs out quickly. Bathrobes and those funny hotel slippers were provided…

Villa Paulina Resort, San Jose, Mindoro Occidental

Villa Paulina Resort, San Jose, Mindoro Occidental

San Jose offers a great variety of resorts and hotels, but they are rather pricy. After a little bargaining we rented 2 rooms in Villa Paulina Resort. The boutique style resort looks great. The rooms are wonderfully decorated and have that ring of ancestral houses to them. but unfortunately they come with free cockroaches. And the hotel is well aware of it, for they spray the bathroom upon arrival of the guests and place the bins strategically on the drainage….

Filipa Lodge, Bulalacao

Filipa Lodge, Bulalacao

Bulalacao is a small town on the Island to Mindoro and the place where FastCat ferries departs for Caticlan (Panay) the gateway to Boracay. (for timetables of the ferry to Boracay you click here ) Although the owner of the FastCat ferries build a new container hotel next to the port, I decided to stay in the Filipino owned lodge a little down the road. There are a number of reasons for that: the price, the Filipino Lodge is much more…
